Steps towards Living your Dreams

21 June 2011, 9:17 am

There comes a point if your life where you need to start living out the desires deeply rooted within you. If you don’t, your life will always feel as if it were lacking something. You will continue to search for the next best thing to occupy your time, until your heart and mind remind you of their deep rooted passions in life.  In order to become the person you want to be you must start acting on those dreams. The problem that I am currently facing is I have all these things that I want to do with my life, yet I haven’t done any of them. It might be that I don’t know where to start or it could be that I am afraid to mess up my status quo living.

Over the weekend I spoke with some friends about the opportunities available to teach overseas in Australia. We dreamed about what it would be like to go over there for a year with our spouses, and just live different lives in a different country. We dreams of the sense of adventure, and the places we would see. Immediately after my mind shifted to my current job securities and what I would be giving up by leaving. I thought about whether or not I would be able succeed if I gave up what I currently have.

I made a list of actions steps required to become the person you want to be become. It might seem like a childlike list, but sometimes us adults need to simplify our lives in order to make any progress. The list below is a simple reminder of what it takes in order to describe yourself as what you want to become.

Dream to be called a dreamer
Feel in order to be a feeler
Travel in order to be a traveler
Save in order to be a saver
Love in order to be a lover
Surf if you want to be a surfer
Give if you aspire to be a giver
Run to be a runner
Lead if you’re a leader
Create in order to be a creator
Pray to become a prayer
fight in order to be fighter
Hate to become a hater
Blog to be a blogger
Adopt in order to be an adopter
Own in order to be called an Owner

All of these items, good or bad, require one thing in order to make it a reality. They require action. Focused and purposeful action towards becoming what you want to be and do with your life. I encourage you not settle for the status quo, but take your first step towards living out your dreams today. Make it a point to act on those desires within you and become the person you aspire to be.

Love it! David and I have been talking about teaching overseas. I REALLY want to. I think we are thinking more of the middle east or Europe. Either way what a fun experience. Make a “Bits of Love” list, then you can post it on your blog and remind yourself of the things you want to accomplish. A way to hold yourself accountable.

Meg, we are on the same wavelength! We will teach overseas! We will travel! We do teach! We do travel!

      Let’s keep it going!

Megan… Good idea. I am trying to decide exactly what it is I want to do with my life and then start living for those passions

Matt, this is such a great post. I think that bit in blue is one of your finest moments yet.

It is so simple, but the best truths seem to be this way.

Become what you want to be.

I really like it Matt. It honestly is my own mantra too. Keep doing it. Keep keep doing it.

Little things like that are easy to forget and we get caught up and distracted by meaningless aspects of life.
