If you had a $1,000…

23 February 2012, 9:21 am

Hope you’re having a great week. Although it’s been a short week for most of you, it has been a busy one. I had a big presentation at work and homework in the evenings, so my blogging time has been cut back a bit.  I figured we would have some fun today and give our frugal minds a break, or a migraine, and ask ourselves a what if question. If you had a $1,000 to spend on yourself, and it could be the lamest, most frivolous purchase ever, what would you buy?

Please remember this is not time to give a responsible answer, “I would buy more stock for my mutual fund.” Boring! Buy that one thing you kind of want, but never had the guts or reasoning to buy. There has to be at least one of you that would take your $1,000 to Vegas and place it on black at the Roulette Table. I know I wouldn’t, but there are some of you out there that would do it in a second. A $1,000 for me would look awesome in my Patagonia fund, but that is a bit boring and responsible as well.

My $1,000 would probably go towards the following purchases:

  • Long Board Surfboard $250 to $300 Used

  • Surfboard Bag $50

  • Surfboard leash $25 to $50

  • 2 Nights at hotel in Santa Barbara $200

  • Lunch/Dinners out in Santa Barbara $200

  • I still have $200 dollars left and I don’t know where to spend it… Frugal mind taking over.

As you can see I can’t even figure out what to do with a $1,000. I don’t like spending that much on things, but rather experiences. Buying $1,000 worth of stuff would be hard for me. Let me know in the comments below what you would do with your $1,000. Don’t be boring! :)

I would buy one of those all-day spa packages and a new pair of leather boots. $1000 = gone in mere hours.

    But it would be bliss.

Haha… Now that’s what I’m talking about…treating yourself to something you love.

Would you find it hard to spend $1000 on clothes? That is a lot of clothes!

I would throw a party! I would cook really good food and have a huge selection of my favorite craft beers to share with my friends.

Matt, $1,000 could easily be spent on clothes. Although, I would spend half on clothes and the other half on Palm Springs with my favorite people around. (yes, I’m talking about the core group!)

I would buy a DSLR canon t2i. Opps…. Just got it in the mail. :) If I want something I tend to buy it. Is that bad?

I’d spend it on a trip – I’m thinking either Hawaii or Colorado (for snowboarding). Probably would have to add some more money as I don’t think $1000 would get me the trip I’d want. :)

You might be able to pull off a trip to Colorado by yourself for a $1000. :)

Gosh, I’m not even sure I could spend $1000 right now. Nothing I want is that expensive, and whatever I want, I go for it.

It also helps to have fine, simple tastes.

I guess if I had $1000 and I had to buy something for myself, and I had to do it today…. Hmmmm… Damn. I really don’t know. I can’t think of anything I want.

If I had a home base right now though, I’d buy an antique victrola. Yeah, that sounds good.

Oh, and get that damn surfboard. You live in San Diego. Don’t let your life slip away over a couple hundred bucks. :)

I would buy a new Prius – green – drive it for a while – prorate back the fuel savings until the net cost is $1000 – ipso facto got a new car

I think I would buy a really expensive pair of Loubutins and then spend the rest on a few nights at my favorite hotel in the Okanogan!

I would buy one of the DSLR’s I’ve been drooling over for the past few months. I’m slowing saving up for one, but have a ways to go. $1,000 would get me a really nice one, and hopefully a sweet lens, too. Ah, to be frivolous!
